Remedial Yoga Teacher Training Course
Starting October 2011

"Making yoga accessible to all"

We are two SYTA teachers very experienced in remedial yoga, having previously trained and worked at The Yoga for Health Foundation. We currently run numerous classes on behalf of the M.S. Society, M.S. Therapy Centres, the KICC Project (an NHS and LTCAS funded charity) and various other NHS and charity funded projects. We have thus jointly acquired over thirty years experience of teaching remedial yoga to people with long-term conditions and disabilities. As a result of lengthy discussions with local healthcare and social services providers we have identified a need for, and have consequently developed a Training Course for qualified yoga teachers, from any tradition. The course will provide teachers with the knowledge, skills, ability and confidence to set-up classes for, and offer one-to-one tuition to those living with long-term conditions and disabilities.

The course will be six days, spread over a nine-month period. The content will include medical and social models of disability. The aetiology and symptomatology of a range of long-term conditions, and side effects of their treatment. Adapting asana for chair and wheelchair use. Pain and energy management techniques. The psychological and emotional effects of long-term conditions. The relevance of the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and Patanjali?s Yoga Sutras in teaching students with long-term conditions and disabilities.

If you are interested in applying for the course please contact either Melanie or Peter.
